This one is my first article on mac os x. However previously i wrote about How to Run Mac OS X in VirtualBox on Windows . Encrypting and password protect your confidential data is always good practices for securing your data from unwanted access.

Today i am going to show you How to Encrypt a Folder with Password Protection in mac without third-party software.

First create a Folder and put your documents inside that you want to encrypt and password protected.

then go to the Spotlight on the Right-side corner and search for DiskUtility.

now Select the File > New and Disk Image from Folder option.

then select your folder and click on the image option.

now in the Image format select the read/write option and in the Encryption menu select the 128-bit AES encryption or 256-bit AES encryption.

now enter the password and unchecked the option ” Remember password in my keychain ” option.

it will create a password-protected dmg file will be created based upon your file. Now delete the original one.

To access the encrypted disk image, just double click on it to mount in finder and enter your password. and always unchecked the option ” Remember password in my keychain ” option. it will open your files in separate drive.

When your work finish, Right-click on the drive and select the Eject option for unmounting.

Enjoy your encrypted and password protected folder.

  1. You can easily put a password on a folder with Folder Password Expert. You can run it on a Mac as well as on a Windows PC. I do not know why this program was not mentioned in the blog post as it is one of the most popular applications of its class.
