How To Speed Up WordPress Load Times :-
When new visitors come to your site, the first thing they notice is the load speed of your website and then the design of your website.
Even if you have a good content website, if your page doesn’t load fast enough, visitors might leave before they see your website design. Fast website is also too much important for Search Engines.
In my previous article i wrote about Perform Website Performance and Optimization Test .
Before starting my article i want to show you my before and after website speed.
Before :-
After :-
The reason why i choose WordPress to build my website is because it is easy to use and i don’t need any HTML background knowledge to create my website.
1. Use an effective caching plugin
Caching plugin helps your website improve its load speed because the plugin caches every aspect of your website like page cache , Database Cache , Object Cache and Browser Cache. As a result, this will significantly reduce the download time. Among the different caching plugins available online, i recommend W3 Total Cache because it is very simple to use and free.
2. Optimizing Image
Image file sizes are much larger than text files. If your website is image-oriented, it will take a much longer time to load your website. There is a free plugin called Nextgen gallery image optimizer which can automatically help you reduce the file sizes of your website but does not reduce the quality of the image.
Personally i am using Photoshop for my website image optimization. check my article Using Photoshop for Search Engine Optimization of Images .
3. Optimizing your home page :-
Your home page is the most important part that requires a quick load speed among all of your other pages because this is where your readers normally enter first.
You can easily optimize your home page with following tips :-
- Show excerpts instead of full posts
- Reduce the number of posts on the page (I like showing between 5-7)
- Remove unnecessary sharing widgets from the home page (include them only in posts)
- Remove inactive plugins and widgets that you don’t need
- Keep in minimal! Readers are here for content, not 1,000 widgets on the homepage
4. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
A CDN is a high-performance network of servers across the globe that replicate the static assets of your website and serve them to visitors from the closest POP.
CDN reduces hops and lowers latency. On average, a request is fewer than 10 hops and takes less than 30ms. The result? Your website gains a global presence .
Personally i am using the cloudflare services for my site. because it,s provide a free CDN and Proxy feature for one site. SignUp Now
However you have option to use Free and Paid CDN services.
Free CDN Services :-
- CloudFlare
- Incapsula
- CoralCDN
- SwarmCDN
Paid CDN Services :-
- MaxCDN
- NetDNA
- Amazon CloudFront
- ProCDN
5. cPanel “Optimize Website” Feature :-
You can also optimize your site with Optimize Website feature in your Cpanel.
Hope all the above mentioned tips will improve your WordPress load time.
